Our Staff
We thought you might like to learn a little bit more about what our staff get up to when they are not in the office or out trekking.
In recent years, ice hockey has gained in popularity in Ladakh, including amongst women. Many of LWTC's staff participate in local tournaments. Former LWTC office manager, Kunzes Dolma, who has been playing for many years now, was even selected to represent India at the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's Challenges Cup of Asia held in Bangkok, Thailand. In fact, the entire 2017 Indian team was made up of women from Ladakh.
Over the years, some of our guides have attended more advanced training in mountaineering and leadership skills at institutions outside Ladakh, such as the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, the Nehru Institute of Moutaineering in Uttarkhand, and The Woodstock school in Uttarkhand. During one course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, our staff picked up a total of 6 medals in recognition of outstanding performance.
As well as physical activities, some of our staff work as guides during the trekking season in order to fund their college attendance in the off-season. We are delighted to see more young women attaining financial independence and pursuing further education. We wish them all success in their studies!
